How can I keep webcam driver loaded, and make XP not to look for it every time it starts. Just like in the old Windows. The same goes for external modem .

Well have you tried adding the programs to the startup folder? If not you could manually edit the registry and add new keys with links to the above mentioned programs.

I've never tried that before but it sounds like you want the ability to use a 'Real mode' driver (those were the ones prevalent in the older DOS/Windows OSs and in Win95/98/ME to a lesser extent).  XP and the more 'modern' OSs now use Virtual Mode drivers - that is, they are loaded and unloaded as the devices are called for by the OS.

Ultimately, I'm uncertain as for what advantage you are seeking by using this method - it's inefficient in my opinion.  Virtual device drivers were created to unload the system memory so that you wouldn't use up valuable processing space by running unused or idle processes in the background.  I definitely recall the old 'DOS' Voodoo days where I tried to load every real-mode driver that was absolutely needed in the extended-memory area so as to 'free up' the 640K I had to work with in the low-memory area.  By doing so, it just made the PC work faster at real-time tasks.

In the older OSs, real-mode drivers were launched/loaded by the file, Autoexec.bat, and I think that method might still work (never tried it though) but you'll need the appropriate real mode drivers to be loaded at start-up.

One difficulty I can foresee is that the code designed to run the 'modern' applications (from within the OS or outside in a separate application) are specifically written to use the virtual drivers and not the real-mode ones you would have to use to achieve your aim.  In order to accomplish that, you'd likely have to disassemble the code in the application - not an easy task.

The only work-around I could foresee is to use older applications designed for the old OSs and real-mode drivers (you might have troubles using 'Compatibility Mode' here) but as soon as you use a 'designed for Win 95/98/ME/2000/XP' application, I think you're going to have real problems (in my opinion) and it will be very inefficient (the application will be 'dog-slow').

In the end, I believe you'll be further behind pursuing this line of thinking, that is, expecting that speed of computing is still a priority for you!

First, thanx for Your time, and this very percise answer.

The reason I'm seeking for a real-mode driver is malfunction of web camera. The USB identification circuit is not working unless I heat the camera. It must be some soldering glitch (I don't have percise term at this moment but, we call it "cold solder") , so when I rise temerature camera identifies itself , drivers load, and everything works a OK. I'm just trying to make it work non stop and skip USB ID part. Can't keep hair drier on my desk all day long.

I'm gonna buy new camera, but this just become chalenge to me, and thats why I'm so willing to do that.

Sorry about my english. To much time in the army. I's gonna get better. Promise.

You mean a "badly soldered contact".

(Yeah, I got a Serbian friend so that helps )

Well, you know...

You got two options:

- solder it again yourself

- buy a new webcam

Getting drivers to work all the time would be pointless if the camera doesn't recognize itself anyway.  Sure the problem of "reinstalling over and over again" would be gone, but you'd still need that hair dryer...
