I have a P4 Dell Latitude running XP PRO. The PC takes about 1min 15 sec to startup. I have run bootvis and choose the optimized settings which improved it about 4 seconds. The graph shows the logon+ services and shell taking approximately 82 sec which in my mind is way to long. Is there anyway to pinpoint which services are taking so long? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do next?

One thing to try is to open Device Manager expand IDE/ATAPTI Controller > right click on Primary > Properties > Advanced Settings.
You will see Device 0 and Device 1 if one of them says Not Applicable in the Current Transfer mode then set the Device Type to 'none'.
Do the same for Secondary. Could shave seconds off your boot
time. XP may be looking for devices that are not there after this change it will not look for them.

If you have an intel chipset that supports IAA, it would be beneficial to install it.

Yes..unless you have the Intel Application Accelerator installed.

What exactly causes such a huge delay for logon service and shell? I have the same problem.  Were it not for the logon delay my computer would probably boot in less than 20 seconds, however the delay takes it up to 40 or 50 seconds...and no one seems to know how to fix this one? anyone...please help

Did you check the device manager settings for IDE/ATAPTI Controller ?

Do you have an Intel chip and therefore IAA installed? And maybe I already asked, but how do you connect to the internet and have you disabled, or set to manual, all unnecessary services.

I think some of my delay may be caused by the way I connect my cable modem but I have not tested it yet.
