| Created a new limited account for my wife in XP Prof. Before I crashed and fell asleep last evening I'm pretty sure I set up everything correctly and finished the task of creating her account.
I have done this plenty of times and have never had a user's account disappear on me.
She turned off the computer. When I went to start XP this morning my Administrative account was gone. It does not come up on the welcome screen. I do not see it under user's accounts. My profile plus hundreds of my files are floating around somewhere on my hard drive that I can't seem to recover or find.
Is there anyway of finding my user account and/or just my files?
Please help!
Many thanks in advance! |

| You should still be able to login as an Administrator using CTR-ALT-DEL twice. And usually this would allow to access to all your files. Unless you restricted access to them, in which case you should Take Ownership: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q308421
You can also create and use a new administrative account to accomplish this. Be sure to first unselect Simple Filesharing in Folder Options. |

| This is normal behavior. When you have mulitiple accounts, the default administator account does not appear on the XP logon screen. Binary gave the correct advice.

| Hi daredevilsinc,
Show Administrator on the Welcome Screen http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1165/
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ SpecialAccounts\UserList] Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called Administrator
REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) = 1
This tweak will not work if you have renamed the Administrator account
Cheers
