With the new Dual Channel DDR Memory, do you have to BUY and INSERT 2 modules to make it work?

Yes, that is the idea. You have to use the two slots indicated as dual channel. If you use the thrid slot, or only one(any of them) it will not take advantage of it.

....................with that in mind, will all PC 3500 memory work on a motherboard that says PC 3200 max?

I suggest this as a way to have a better guarantee of achieving TRUE 400 Mhz speed.

My reason is that I have found some PC 3500 memory that is so close in price to PC 3200, that I see NO point in getting the PC 3200 memory.  PLus after a lot of reading, several people have been disappoint with various PC 3200 when trying to run it at a TRUE 400 Mhz.

If the prices are close then I would recommend getting the faster of the two. Some memory is designed to run at high timings Cas 2.5/3 and don't do so well at CAS 2.

My Corsair PC3200 can do 215 on CAS 2 which is quite impressive! Although I have heard that Corsair are now releasing PC4000 with CAS 3!!! This would probaly be slower than a slower stick with  a faster CAS rating!

If you leave all the timings as they are then a PC3200 should do 200MHz.

How do you benchmark your RAM speed? I have 800Mhz RAMBUS.  But I don't know truly how fast it is.

Dell XPS M1710

XP Pro SP 2

Intel Core Duo 2.16GHz

1G Dual Chanel DDR RAM

nVidia GeForce Fo 7900 GS

In regards to buying RAm for a dual channel setup, I've got a choice between 2x Twinmoss 512MB PC3200 (CAS 2.5 i think)for €199.4, 2x Corsair 512MB PC3200 (CAS 2.5) for €239.6 or 2x Corsair 512MB PC3200 (CAS 2) for €282.

Wich should I choose? I use my PC for everyday stuff, internet, games...

Am I gonna notice a difference choosing the Corsair CAS 2 modules?

PS: prices are in € wich is about the same as in US$

Blino:

Out of those I would go with the Cas 2.5 Corsair sticks as these can run stable at Cas 2. But the TwinMos are supposed to be fairly good as well. It's always good to google for some reviews....

I would recommend using SiSoft Sandra.
