| Tryed to log on this a.m. and got ?windows/system32/conf error. I tried to fix it with original instalation cd, got stuck. called dell, It took 4 seperate maintanace guys before one finally tried safe start which was no good. Then we created a new windows folder and renamed it to my dogs name, copied folder, and got me back.. All the memory is here but on old "computer" (folder). I have figured out ISP, without changing passwords, but how do I get old info onto this copy?
Also any Idea what made this happen. They said only other fix is complte re-install. No saved work will be left.
Am getting busy to copy everything I got as I dont
't know what made this happen or if it will come back again. Got Norton sys. works and ran speed disk yesterday before this happened, but watched a dvd last nite.
Thanks for any clues.

| | so you now have 2 Windows folders - or 2 partitions - or what exactly ? See, you should be able to delete the old Windows folder? Is this Home or Pro XP ? And 'memory'...do you mean data ? |

| Meant to say data. Man is this a mess. I have had to re-install all the software that came with the Windows XP Home. Norton system works will install but not anti virus. Says it already detects it. Lost Real One Player completly, had to reinstall dvd an cd-rom, don't know if they work. Found "TV Out" on driver cd. Can't use system restore, and have no ability to use upgrades, I now have Window media player 8. Tech said, we can only get you the basics. Been on here for 11 hours now and still haven't got half way through. Also when I boot, I get the black "fix it" screen, Choose windows xp or windows xp, ya got 30 seconds! or hit f12 to get into bigger mess
I must get anti virus fixed, all the tools over rode the initial, in fact, everything I install overrides something. Delete or change programs only shows blank untill I install, so I delete in "programs, but can't get to old screen. I am working with the computer I bought in its out of the box state
Any help PLEASE!!!
