My last thread was about the issues I've been having with my laptop (incredible slowdown etc) : http://www.tweakxp.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=353&PN=1. Since then, the problems have just gotten worse. It is no longer detecting the video card (GF 2 govid 32mb) and take over fifteen minutes to startup. Is the problem here in the RAM or HDD? I reformatted the day before yesterday which means there's nothing installed on the mahcine so I doubt it's a software issue. My only question is whether it will turn out to be the HDD or the RAM.

Do you have the means to swap RAM out or if you have two sticks of RAM, remove one alternately and then the other? By using this technique, you might be able to deduce which of the components is acting up.
Did you try the memtest86 link I posted in the other thread? That will also help you to determine the stability/integrity of your RAM.
Intuitively, I still believe it is your hard drive dying, but I'm a little influenced by the dialogue from your other thread. For those that aren't conversant with your 'other thread on the same subject' , you might wish to post the machine specifications again to put others on speed as for your hardware setup. More detail the better!
