| Hi one and All
I have followed your advice and regularly run both Adware and spybot. I have also installed spyware blaster. I have read the help files and it says to "select all". By selecting all does this mean that in future it won't let anything come through on the computer or does it block stuff that is already loaded on the computer as well. How do I know which ones to check and which ones not to check.
Thankyou
Noddy |

| Spyware Blaster, sets specific IDs of known spyware programs so they dont install (and therfore run). the version i used, did not remove any spyware that was already on the computer or operating, although it might inactivate it??
after setting the IDs in the registry Spyware Blaster was done, it would STOP the incomming. funny thing about the program , all anyone needs is a registry file to set them ids, the program isnt a nesisity. i guess the program serves to identify and select , in case a person desired to change and ALLOW specific spyware.
(on the version i used)
because spyware will become like spam, and just start trading up IDs faster than anyone can keep up with them, eventually it will not be able to stop all the stuff. presentally the updates are like virus dat files, setting out new IDs to stop.
setting your activeX download security to PROMPT in the internet options, is a better overall way to be NOTIFIED, that some activex download is comming into your computer.
Also, you could still download a executable that is spyware, spyware blaster is mostly for them activex things that downloaded just because you showed up at a web page. (and didnt have security set to notify you)
OK, so i am Guessing, but i try hard |

| Thankyou Psyco Geek for your time
I didn't fully understand what you said. I have only followed the advise in this forum about installing this program. It's just that I am not sure on how to use it. As for a registry file I have no idea I have no idea and so far I have not been game enough to touch anything in the registry. And last but not least, I have my active X set and it does notify me about active X things may not display properly because....etc. If this is all I need, why then did I have spyware on my computer before using the above 2 programs. |

| "spyware" comes in many ways,
activex through web pages.
Freebie programs with 60% cute 40% spyware, downloaded from the web.
and now (just to assist the community :-) they are packaging it in Cheap CDs that you buy at the store. most of the time, you have to be dumb enough to install it from the cd.
and of course executables and scripts that a user selects to OPEN out of thier e-mail.
other than activex components, generally the user choose to download and install the stuff, i would assume things like kazza (virus and spyware city) and other semi-illegal download locations are where most people pick up the nasties.
often there is a Licence agreement that the user blindly punches [I AGREE] without ever having read all the horrible things they were agreeing to , which makes the intrusion, the slowdown, and destruction of the users computer , completly legal, although still amoral and deceptive.
OK, so i am Guessing, but i try hard |

| From the web site:
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.
By setting a "kill bit" for spyware ActiveX controls, SpywareBlaster can prevent the installation of any spyware ActiveX controls from a webpage. It does this while not interfering with "friendly" ActiveX controls - so your browser can work correctly and you can have peace of mind!
You won't get any more annoying "Yes/No" boxes popped up, asking you to install a spyware ActiveX control (which can increasingly be found in pop-up ads!). In fact, Internet Explorer will never even download or run the spyware ActiveX control!
In addition, SpywareBlaster can prevent many of these spyware ActiveX controls from running, even if they are already installed on your system.*
The newest SpywareBlaster version can even block spyware/tracking cookies! And SpywareBlaster does not need to be running in the background to provide this protection!

| I also run SpywareGuard:
SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware! And you can easily have an anti-virus program running alongside SpywareGuard.
SpywareGuard now also features Download Protection and Browser Hijacking Protection!
Features Listing:
- Fast Real-Time Scanning engine - catch and block spyware before it is executed (EXE and CAB files supported) with signature-based scanning for known spyware and heuristic/generic detection capabilities to catch new mutated spyware
- Download Protection - prevent spyware from being download in Internet Explorer
- Browser Hijacking Protection - stop browser hijacking activity in real-time
- SG LiveUpdate - provides an easy updating solution
- Small size - with a small size and small definition sizes, download and updates are quick
- Report Capabilities - keep a detailed log of all spyware detected
- Spyware files are blocked before being opened or run - they are not simply shut down after they are loaded in memory (and after they have performed their tasks)
- It's a free download

| I agree with Allan but also use Spy Sweeper from Webroot - www.webroot.com as this picks up things that adaware & spybot miss
