When I install the 512mb RAM on my computer, I hear 4-5 beeps coming from the CPU and the monitor does not seem to work nor the graphic card fan moves. I don't know how much Mhz my RAM is, but my previous 128 RAM was 133Mhz. Now after, removing that and install a 512mb RAM, the CPU is running but only the monitor doesn't work. I guess it doesn't support more than 133Mhz. How do I run the 512mb RAM on my computer? If I remove the CD Drive from my PC, will my computer work? or is it necessary for the CD Drive to be there cause I don't really need it cause it doesnt work.

..before Allan and RichieUK answering..let me give a few tips if you don't mine..beeping when changing RAM's normally because of uncorrect RAM's specs. like mistaken in DDR1 and DDR2..or incorrect seats of RAM in it's slots..or the m/board have limited RAM's upgrade..that's what I thought..

P/S: correct me if i'm wrong and my english too...

Beeps at boot indicate a hardware error of some sort and vary with the bios. The number of beeps define the problem. You can go to the web site of your bios provider and see what the beep errors are. Other than that I cannot be helpful with this problem - hardware issues are definitely not my strength.

The 512MB memory module also has to support the 133MHz FSB/Front Side Bus, can't just buy a module and hope it works as motherboards can be very specific in what they can use. Be sure the notches in the module line up correctly with the slot/socket on the motherboard.

Thanks for the reply everyone.
The system doesn't seem to beep now maybe cause I fit the RAM properly. It seems to work. Thanks again
