| I have been working all day trying to setup a private sharing network through my router between my wired desktop and my wired laptop to no avail. I have been reading and working and reading and working but just cannot get anything to work. I could really use some expert help doing this and will really appreciate it if somebody can hold my hand and work me through to the finish of completing this goal. Consider everything I have done so far a flop and start from the very beginning of doing this setup.
I am about to the end of my wits in reading all I can find and I don't think any more reading is going to help me.
I want to be able to print from my laptop using the printer that is USB connected to the desktop and I also want to be able to share files, pictures, music and etc between the two computers. Also I would like to sync my Eudora email program using the GoodSync program.
I think I have the parts of each computer setup to share what I want to share at each computer. I can ping the desktop from the laptop but not the laptop from the desktop. I thought at one time I could ping both ways. I thought I had both firewalls setup to allow the pinging but now am not sure about that. I am using ZoneAlarm Free on the laptop and Comodo on the desktop.
Thank you very much to anyone who can help me.

Well looks like something right is happening. I rebooted both computers and fiddled around a little bit more. I am now able to access my desktop computer printer with my laptop and send printjobs to the printer that is hooked up to the desktop. I am also able to access the "Public" folder on the desktop from the laptop. I have two hard drives on my desktop and they are "C" & "E" and I have set "E" drive to share but I am unable to access it yet. I am not able to access anything from the desktop to the laptop yet though. So I still need help... Thanks...

EDIT 07/30/2008 8:02AM
More progress. I finally shut down my ZoneAlarm firewall on my laptop to see if I could ping and I could so I knew that the firewall was at least part of my problem. Turns out my firewall's "Trusted Zone Security" was set to "High" which did not allow sharing. I reset it to medium which allows sharing. Now I can access the laptop from the desktop.
These are my remaining problems:
1. I cannot access "C" drive on the laptop from the desktop even though I have "C" drive on the laptop set for sharing.
2. I cannot access "E" drive on the desktop from the laptop even though I have "E" drive on the desktop set for sharing.
So if somebody could help me lick these last two problems I would be most grateful.
THANK YOU... |
