| | Hello, I'm using MS Vista Ultimate 32 bit..new in this OS and need to know about one thing. Why the HDD free space keep dropping from time to time when I'm using the computer..not saving anything (pictures, videos, songs etc.) and it seems like Vista has recorded every task I've done..If I use 6 hours a day and the space been taken about 2 or 3 gigs..the only way to get back the spaces was by disable and enable back the System Restore. Not happened in XP but why on Vista.. So is this about Superfetch , Pagefile or something else? How to disable it and is it safe to do so?It would be nice to have a detail feedback..thank you. P/S: I hope you guys understand what I'm saying..I'm not good in English.. |

| I think you've answered your own question. System Restore will create Restore Points, each of which can be very large. When you disable system restore you immediately delete those restore points and regain the space on the hard drive.

| lockluck (7/17/2008) Not happened in XP but why on Vista..Just a note, the same thing does happen in WinXP, just may not be as noticeable. By default WinXP sets the maximum HDD space for System Restore points at 12% of the HDD and Vista sets it at 15% of the HDD.
