| I have recently installed OpenOffice.org, and am thrilled by it's compactness and pdf export facility. I have MS Office 2007 too and am thinking of getting rid of this ponderous beast. My question is:
i) Is there any feature of MS Office 2007 that i might regret not having at some stage, (as far as most normal office applications go)?
ii) Will my existing MS Office documents be corrupted or unusable with OpenOffice after uninstallation of MS Office?
iii) I am especially peeved that Office2007 does not have the Speech Recognition facility. Is there a similar provision for Speech Recognition in OpenOffice and how can i incorporate it, if not?
Have i mentioned how grateful i am to be here, and to be able to, just leave my pc problems at your doorsteps and feel confident about the outcome? |

| | OpenOffice has the basic functions that Office has. There could be an occasional higher end function missing, most people find it just fine though. All your present documents will still be usable if you uninstall Office. But why uninstall it? Just leave it there, it won't bother you unless you need the disk space. (or it is an expired trial.) Also, you may want to set the default file save format to be standard Microsoft Office format. You should find that under Options/Save. Can't help you on your voice rec issue. |

| thanks, i just want to keep a tidy machine, that's all; since i already have ReadIrisPro, there's nothing MS Office has (or has it?), that i won't get from OpenOffice...besides, after all the tweaks i picked up from Tweaks.com and applied, it offends me to see 10/15 items of OSession in my Event viewer on start-up, even when i am not using Office--Yikes! i have become a fanatic. |
