| | Since yesterday, whenever i try to play any of the radio stations that i have bookmarked, i get a 'install missing plug-in' button and when i click on that i get 'plug-in not found' and the above message. Please shed some light on this as i have all the required plug-ins; adobe reader, flash player, real player, updated java, etc. Another radio station gives this message after i click install plug-in: No plug-in found, Unknown plug-in (audio/x-scpls) with a 'Manual install' button and when i click on that, 'URL not found'. I have no problems playing the media files that i have saved on my computer. I have tried reinstalling firefox. |

| I have a similar situation on my network, when I use Firefox to try to stream my local radio station online.
It never occurred to me to use the IE Tab extension to make it work until a colleague suggested it. The website will read your browser headers and give you the right version for your browser version.
I would almost bet that the problem may be an ActiveX control that Firefox doesn't natively support, that Internet Explorer does.

| Thanks, i remember allowing a few internet explorer extensions (in addition to the Active-X that i had already allowed when updating to SP3)/ even when i was warned by winPatrol;/ how do i import that IE tab extension?/ I have tried diabling the IE Active X...still the problem./
edited: 9:56am. I downloaded the IE tab extension--still, same problem.
edited: 1:40pm. Can't live like this, thinking of creating a slip streamed SP3 CD, zero filling hdd and reinstalling Windows, and everything else from scratch. Please save me from myself.
edited: 10:34pm. All this began sometime since i uninstalled MS Office and installed OpenOffice.org. Does this help?

| | problem was solved after uninstalling firefox from 'Add Remove Programs', removing all traces of it and plugins from C root directory and Registry, and reinstalling. |

| | Spoke too soon, i can hear just this one site, http://www.radiosymphony.com/; the others radio stations still produce the same 'install missing plugin' sequence. Looks like i am going to be the only one concerned with, or even remotely interested, in this problem |

| You've gotten me curious now.
Please post a few other online radio sites that you have trouble with. I would like to look at their code to see what "plugin" is required by the website, that you, unfortunately, do not have.
I certainly don't want to leave anyone out in the cold, so to speak, when it could be a simple solution that could be easily overlooked.

| After viewing Radiotower.com, I can see a potential problem that you may have. This website requires either Windows Media player OR RealPlayer (RealOne) to stream music.
Each time I click on a station that requires RealAudio player, I get the same error message about the missing plugin (audio/x-scpls) which is a Shoutcast Playlist streaming audio content. I do not have Real player installed on my laptop, but I do have Real Alternative (which is a better solution than Real player) installed on one of my desktop machines, and the audio streams fine.
Head on over to here and download Real Alternative, which is a Real Player alternative solution. It's smaller in size, lighter on your system resources, and not bloated with nonsense which you'll never use.
As far as Peabody goes, it uses mp3 to play, so I can see that you have to download first. If you're having issues with playing mp3's, give VLC player a try. It plays just about everything you can give it.
