when cutting the cpu on i'm getting a message saying windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:  /windoes\system32\config\system

you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows in setup using the original setup cd-rom

select 'r' at the first screen to start repair

i need some help with this, i have some files on that computer that i need to get off after that it can go back to being a paper weight again.

Thanks

Joe

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive if it does'nt already.
Boot into the Bios and set your CD-Rom drive as first boot device.
For more information about how to do this, refer to your computer's documentation or contact your computer manufacturer.
Once you've done that, insert the Windows XP cd into your cd-rom drive.
Restart your computer so you are booting from the CD.
When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press the R button on your keyboard to start the Recovery Console.
The Recovery Console will start and ask you which Windows installation you would like to log on to. If you have multiple Windows installations, it will list each one, and you would enter the number associated with the installation you would like to work on and press enter. If you have just one Windows installation, type 1 and press enter.
It will then prompt you for the Administrator's password. If there is no password, simply press enter. Otherwise type in the password and then press enter.
If you entered the correct password you will now be presented with a C:\Windows> prompt and you can start using the Recovery Console.
