I booted from the Windows XP cd and did the repair. Half way thru the repair they ask me for a product key. My product key doesnt work but when I cancel everytime I start the computer it boots windows xp repair system and eventually it asks for my product key again.... what do i do

Not having any information about the computer or the brand can only say you may not have exactly the correct version of the CD.

Each Service Pack added to the CD tends to make a different version of the OS.

Adding a Service Pack to the installed Windows makes a newer version of the OS, again probably won't accept the CD Key. Have had a number of cases where a clean install with the original disk was the only way.

Some OEMs use duplicator-cloned HDDs and the CD Key in Windows may not be the same as on the CD Key sticker.
