Hey guys. I got a brand new Dell Inspiron 1525 for college graduation. It works great, but once in a while it shuts down unexpectedly. I havent actually seen it do this, but I'll know about it because I'll open the lid and see it sitting at the Start Windows Normally (etc) screen. Below is a log of the error from the Problem Reports and Solutions application. Any ideas? Thanks!

Update: The BSOD happened again and I saw it this time. It was fast so I didn't see much but I saw a .dll listed and it also said "page fault in non-paged area." Does that help at all?

Hi MoneyAddyct
If you are using Windows XP, right click on my computer > Properties > Select the 'Advanced' tab > and under 'startup and recovery' click the 'settings' button. This will open a new window, and under the 'System Failure' heading, uncheck 'Automatically restart.'
This should allow you to read the error message. Also under Start> Control Panel>Administrative Tools> Event Viewer>and either Application or System is there any red dots with an "X'?
I found some articles on BSOD's

I like this one

I think you had a stop code 0x00000050. I set this link to stop code 50 but if it turns out you are having multiple stop codes just click on the code either on the right of left side.

Thanks for your responses. I have deactivated "automatic restart" so I'll be able to provide more information if this happens again. Also, I checked the Event Viewer and there were no red dots with an 'x.'

The symptoms you describe could be due to hardware or overheating problems caused by a failed processor fan, bad memory (RAM), failing power supply, underpowered power supply, CPU overheating, motherboard, video card, faulty drivers, BIOS and firmware problems, dirty hardware, and sometimes malware.

The BSOD happened again and I saw it this time. It was fast so I didn't see much but I saw a .dll listed
Providing the exact error code and any files listed on the blue diagnostic screen will allow us to help you better trace the problem.

Files that help describe the problem (some files may no longer be available)
Mini051608-01.dmp
sysdata.xml

Memory Dumps in XP
How to read the memory dump files

For the issue with sysdata.xml, see Examining Errors
Error Message: "The system has recovered from a serious error.
C:\Windows\Minidump020404-01.dmp
C:\Docume~1\Darle~1\Locals~1\Temp\Wer5E.tmp.diroo\sysdata.xml"

Solution: This error message reveals a problem with a memory dump (an inventory of the contents of computer memory; sometimes referred to as a minidump). It seems the OS created a memory dump file but forgot about it, so it's attempting to create the file again. The resulting conflict leads to a serious error and the sudden system meltdown.

The minidump error is sometimes associated with an outdated video driver (a program that facilitates communication between a hardware component and the rest of the system), so one potential solution is to download a driver update for the video card...

I got a brand new Dell Inspiron 1525 for college graduation.

You should use Dell Support:
http://support.dell.com/

Follow the procedure at Windows XP Support:
'My computer automatically reboots'.

It happened again. This time after I unplugged it from the power supply. I had it plugged in, closed the lid, unplugged it, and when I opened the lid the BSOD was in progress. Here's what I gathered from it:

The issue is with igdkmd32.dll (of which a google search displayed no results)
It was, as mentioned previously, a "page fault in non paged area"
There was also a stop code of 0x00000050.
