Hello when ever I go to browse through files or access control panel or anything else I get a glitch saying "Windows Explorer not responding." I don't know why this happened but I can't go on Internet Explorer ( I'm lucky I installed Firefox too) and access my control panel, I have Norton 360 and it hasn't picked up any viruses. System restore won't work either it says that there is a corrupt file. Finally I am running windows Vista home basic on a Dell Inspiron 531S with 1 GB of ram and a 180 GB of hardrive with 9.99Gb of backup any help is appreciated.

Did this just start or has it always been this way? If it just started, what happened just before the problem appeared (new hw, sw, crash, etc)?

Have you tried a "clean boot"? Open msconfig and on the startup tab choose "selective startup" (disable everything from loading) and reboot. What happens?

ya it just happened on Saturday, when DEP was blocking a program I wrote so I was prompted to restart when I chose to allow it and Windows Explorer didn't work. I have Vista pre-installed so I don't have a disc to clean install it and the msconfig didn't work
