Hi Chazza01

What hardware does your computer have in it(RAM, Mother Board, Video Card)?

I am thinking that if in system properties it says that you have 992Mb of RAM, That you do not have a separate video card installed and that the on-board video uses 32 Mb of RAM, also the 512 stick is not being recognized. Is the 512 stick of RAM the same as the 1 Gig? If so I would try re-seating the 512

Absolutely, that can be a problem. Mixing different speeds (CAS numbers, latency and so on) can cause computer instability, hardware and software problems, and even blue screens.

Mixing a stick of slow speed RAM with a stick of faster speed RAM causes your machine to run at the slower speed of the two. In other words, it's not good.

My advice is to take the 512 stick out and use your 1 Gig stick and see how your machine operates. By the post you gave, the two are incompatible with each other.

According to Crucial your board has 2 DDR 184-pin memory slots and can have up to 1GB/1024MB in each for a total of 2GB plus it has 2 168-pin slots for 1GB each, total 2GB. Have to use one or the other pairs.
http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=MS-6738%20%28KM2M%20Combo-L%29
Each memory slot can hold DDR PC3200,DDR PC2700,SDRAM, PC133 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*
*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.

MSI shows the board as having 4 memory slots but 2 are for DDR and the other 2 are for PC133 RAM, can't mix them. Also read the Main Memory section.
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KM2M_Combo-L

Your board accepts either the Athlon CPU, the Athlon XP CPU or the Duron CPU.

There may be jumpers to set to choose the memory in use.
