| I have already tried, several patches inclouding microsoft's or softpedia's FixWindowsUpdate as well, but nothing seems to be able to correct that.
do you know any tip to bing it back? I am working with Vista 64 Ultimate

| No reason to avoid a repair install. Done properly, nothing will change except that all system files will be overwritten. All settings and programs will remain intact.

| I tried to do it but after 23 hours!!!!! I managed to cancel the upgrading.
I was wondering whether I should uninstall McAfee security suite.
