| Hey guys, first post!!
Have been messing around with Vista for a while now, and getting use to the services ect.
I FINALLY got it going somewhat fast, at least close to the speeds I was seeing in XP but, my biggest problem is the internet is so dang slow it's painful; I noticed, however, when I disabled the 'Base Filtering Engine' ("BFE") that the internet got its 'zip' back!
Only problem is now my firewall doesn't work? I'm using ZoneAlarm free and was wondering if anyone knew of a solution to this? Or maybe an alternate FW to use? I can't stand having this BFE on, especially when I KNOW the internet is so much faster with it off |

| OK, not using IE7. Although it is just as slow using IE7, using FireFox 2, and also Opera 7, all same results.
No spyware/malware/virus/trojan ect. either, this is a completely fresh install except for having NOD32 installed and also ZoneAlarm. If I keep the BFE enabled and use the windows firewall the internet will run just fine, it's when trying to run another Firewall that I encounter problems. It seams the BFE service only likes the Windows Firewall but, I don't. I like to know if/when an app is trying to access the net and be able to control it. The Windows Firewall lets too many apps through, although the Vista one does do a better job of keeping outsiders out
Thanks for the tips guys but, doesn't really get me anywhere, sorry I didn't provide more info. Let me know if there is any other info ya need. |
