| I have 2g mem - 1g is cached - this leaves 36m free. What is the best cache size and how do I change the cache size?

| Or do you mean Virtual Memory/Paging File? Put either term in the Windows Help or Help and Support Search box to get the written recommendations.

| First thing to do is to turn off Superfetch service:

2nd: To get more data cached see: http://www.tweakvista.com/article39099.aspx and http://www.tweakvista.com/article39198.aspx.
3rd: Buy 2gb more and disable that funny swap file. Everything should FLY.

Hey tareldo!
New to the forums(as I see you are too ), just wondering why you suggest disabling SuperFetch?
I don't have alot of experience in Vista but, from what I understand, SuperFetch 'should' make Vista run fast as it will cache the most used programs into to memory to pull them out faster. Is this not true? What is the advantages to disabling SuperFetch? Just curious, please be easy on me
...also, is it possible to have a 'middle-ground', so to speak, where you could keep SuperFetch enabled but, reduce the amount of RAM that it consumes because it seams that it is a bit OVER excessive in the amount of RAM it uses for cache. |
