I am using a Vista-look visual style. My problem is, to complete the look, I need to rename "Settings" in the startpanel to "Control Panel", the one that opens, well, the control panel.

Suggestions, help or any tip, please.

Since the Control Panel in the Vista Start menu already is shown as Control Panel one must assume you are working within WinXP.

The problem with the Settings item in WinXP [and earlier] is that it contains more than the Control Panel, e.g. Printers and Faxes, Network Connections, etc. You'd have to break those out. I've done it on my WinXP Pro, show the 3 items separately and no Settings item. I used Properties of the Start Menu, Customize, Advanced tab and some of the settings there.

Thanks Berton.

Yes, I use XP. Please take a look at my desktop. Wouldn't it look better if Control Panel is there instead of Settings?

To achieve making your WinXP look like WinVista that would be a change to complete it. I got rid of Settings on WinXP by customizing the Start menu, now shows Control Panel with the little arrow that pops out the list of items in the Control Panel. Network Connections and Printers also show on the Start Menu.

Yeah, I saw what you did. If it worked for you, might work for me too. Can you please show me how you did it? Really appreciate it if you could.

I tried ViStart build 2502, but it messed up my icon size and desktop layout every after bootup. Besides, I just wanted a minor makeover, not a complete takeover by a third-party replacement. Something like a registry touch-up job.

Thanks.
