| | Kind of like CONTROL and NUMPAD PLUS command, but done every time I open a folder in Explorer. Also would like to be able to specify to windows I do NOT want the NAME field autoresizing. Just every other column. But I would like to specify it column by column if possible. |

| It works for me to open Windows Explorer, click View and choose Details. Then I set the column widths as desired. Lastly I click Tools, Folder Options, View tab and then the Apply to All Folders button. Windows Explorer then opens to that view.

| | That's what I do (have to), but let's say I have audio columns (ex: bitrate) and I am looking at a pictures folder. LOTS of wated space. It would be excellent if the columns that have no data present would "minimize". Like if the column width setting (for that column) in Explorer could be set to 0 and then that column would auto size itself out when not needed in that folder. Any tweak that will autosize a column to do that? It exists, at least with CONTROL + PLUS SIGN. If not, any program out there that does that? |

At least, is there a way that CONTROL+PLUS would auto activate in each folder view? If not, any program out there that does that? IDEALLY I would want to specify auto-column width on a per column basis (NAME field gets too huge sometimes when set to auto width with CONTROL+PLUS). |

| yup it does, it moves out to the largest name in the folder, logical enough.
a way to "macro" it easily might be with a multi-button mouse, there are 5 button mouses like kensington and such, that you could set a macro on one of the buttons, with one press slap it to the standard place it goes, but not to some specific column ammount.
Possible Workaround.
how about a Rename? are the locations that you want to "fix" like this in Safe folders of files you can alter names on? (meaning not system folders).
cause, there is this really cool Rename Program called
"Superb Batch Renamer" its freeware.
and it can rename a slew of MP3 files WITH renaming of MP3s in mind, like it can remove useless spaces or dashes, cut to any length , search and replace , pull Vowels out,everything a person might want to do to rename MP3s while still attempting to keep it recognisable title and artist. you SEE every change that is going to occur before you hit the go button, and it can potentially UNDO the last change . very cool program for getting file sizes trimmed down enmass, yet still usable.
hmm anything else? well there is where the window position data is stored in the registry, in the BAGS section, what do that call that stuff, Windows Metrics . it would be a nightmare to mess with the 400+ entries in there , but each one stores the Windows metrics for each different window. when the window is opened the Bags are accessed to set the window sizes and properties and all. wouldnt wanna go there, numbers everywhere :-)
all of that assumes you open a WINDOW, not use the exploder, each window would have saved what you want, where you want it, just not when you use a Single window explorer.
so that adds, putting in cool toolbars, with quick access folder shortcuts, instead of using explorers at all.
use the XP built in toolbars , instead of messy desktops, and put commenly accessed folder shortcuts into them.
bing, bang, boom, everything you open up is just the way you closed it one click away.
set the toolbar for autohide, adjust the text and size and all, and you can have 100+ items on a toolbar, much much fast, and would fix the window metrics issue, they would open just like you set them.
one button for movies, one button for music, and one button for por.. i mean pictures 
ok i am almost at the 7th way to do it
