SP2 is the best. 5 million lines of code & not one problem. Hey, wait a minute, where did my firewire go? I really liked plugging in my DV camcorder and playing around with video. Guess I'll have to forget that feature. Oh well, let me back up my data to my external h. drive. Wait a minute, delayed write failure, wtf* Guess I'll have to back up to papyrus. Maybe I should look in event viewer. Damn, what do all those errors mean? I never got them with SP1. Ok, let me sync my pda, well I only need the info that's there now anyway.

For all the people out there that SP2 worked for . . . good for you, honest.

The fact that SP2 should give me all these warm & fuzzy feelings because I have a pop-up blocker, and can't open url's or attachments in Outlook, hey that's great. Seems like the folks that find SP2 a cure all, are the one's that wouldn't know one trojan from the other one you use for protection anyway.

My vote: SP2 is not ready for prime time. And until the MS MVP's can come up with solid fixes for problems SP2 causes, I'll stick with the working model of XP Pro. (SP1)

If they weren't going to start pushing it I wouldn't even bother but from what I've read on the Microsoft site and a few others we're not going to have a choice. Do a search in google for SP2 Forced:

April 12th is the very last day. That’s when the clock runs, and the deadline looms. And here you thought it was April 15th. Nope, it’s the twelfth. Because we’re not talking about the day your taxes are due. On no. We’re talking about the day that your Windows XP or Windows XP SP1 computer will be automatically updated to XP SP2 (Service Pack 2) whether you want it to or not. Period

I had good & bad luck with it myself - I had a problem with one dll and had to repeat a few steps(If you have Alcohol120% uninstall it first then re-install after the updates). Had 2 or 3 programs that needed to be re-installed but otherwise it went fine & after shutting everything off it's working without a problem with the exception of an occasional blocked page or download here & there even though I have those security settings set to off or disabled completely.

I've completely Agreed with Treeman cause we never know what kind of trouble we will get with sp2. Those who are so happy that they don't have problem.. Listen.. SP2 is not give you a error or show you a error that will confirm that it's SP2's error.. Microsoft become smart..  in that way MS showing that it's not their problem it;s the Device or Software Problem.. But they can't answer why that device or software working before smoothly..  before SP2..

Guys with SO called succesful installation... Try to do somethin.. then only you can say it's succesful.
  1. Try to Use your New CD/DVD burner to Burn Something.
  2. Did you plugged in your digital camera or firmware devices after SP2?
  3. Don't predict that it's perfect(SP2).. Cause errors will come with scenarios .. and most of the time you'll be fooled cause it won't show anywhere that it's SP2 .. rather it'll show this application cause fatal exception (bla bla) etc..
Let the Specialists/Testers around the world use it, dig into it.. Then after time You'll know how many problems it can cause.

Obviously people without SP2 love the famous Blue Screen Of Death! I'd rather have the errors hidden than have to reboot every day of my life. SP2 was rated 4 out of 5 in APC magazine September 2004. They said it was the best update from Microsoft yet!

APC Magazine, you mean the folks that make surge protectors.

I've got one, is that all I need for SP2 to behave?

Snork,

APC isn't a type of surge protecter! It is one of the best PC mags in Australia! It stands for Australian Personal Computer. By the way, your not funny...

Well if I lived where the Coriolis Effect was backwards, I'd think APC was a damn good computer magazine too! However since we are on the www if you go to http://www.apc.com/products/ you'll see something that maybe you didn't know about.

"By the way, your not funny..."

And you're not exceptionatly smart either.
