Need a hand if at all possible...

This morning my PC decided to be a "stinker" and not start up properly. It begins by freezing on Abit 64 screen, and will stay there until I double-tap my Tab key...this just "majically" began???

I have an AMD Dual Core 64

Core Processor +4800

2.41GHz, 2.00 Gig of Ram

Any clue maybe??

Thanks...

Mark

ok just guessing here, but your clues made me think that a keypress is occuring.
a keypress can sometimes lock a bios or dos type of screen, untill it gets releaced.
stickey key on keyboard.   low liklyhood.  is it a wireless?

hmmmm, then if the bios has defaulted, like the clock memory battery is dead, or the cmos reset, assuming YOU didnt change anything.  and one of the "status" screens is waiting for a keypress, jump into the BIOS of the motherboard, and see if items like "quickboot" "memory test" and "status screen" type things are turned on, they use different names for it in different bioses, but usually they are disable/enable switches in the bios.

A secondary Bios screen is waiting for input, like a raid card, or onboard HD or Scsi  controller.

there is an error and "stop on error" setting is set in the bios. there can be stop on mouse error, stop on keyboard error, or stop on all errors, it awaits your input.

problem is it shouldnt be stuck on the LOGO then, but instead some informative screen, or with visual text at the bottom of the logo telling you what to DO next.

that leaves something like, it was doing a memory test, and keypress aborts memory test, ECC memory tests can take forever, and can be aborted.

Turn off the stupid LOGO temporarily, or hit the TAB or ESC key to remove the logo, so you can see what it going on behind the logo picture.   In the bios there is a way to turn off the LOGO, get back to the real data, then you will see what is occuring.  that is the only way your going to know what is occuring, then turn the pretty pic back on when you find out the truth

did i miss anything :-)

i guess there is a theme here to my rambling, its happening before the operating system has even begun to load or exist, your answer lies in the bios.
hitting tab will pull the logo, hitting DEL F-2 or F-9 will get into the bios , usually the DELETE key , then wade around in the bios and see what up.
first is the clock/date set right?  are your settings right.
