is it posible for me to hide a drive from plain view in vista. i dont want any one using it so i want it removed from " my computer "

i used tweakxp in windows xp, but i was hoping that this is not the only way to do this.

i dont want to install the tweakvista utility since all i used xp for was to hide drives .

is there any other way to do this ???

over and out

I have written a .net utility that makes this possible. Just select hide folder and select the drive.(havent tested it on drives yet but works on normal folders, which is what windows mostly thinks of drives as.

Link: www.freewebs.com/omnicoder/ and go to the downloads page. It is called file properties editor.

my hp computer has a drive d partition for system recovery. they made the drive size the exact size for the recovery. now vista keeps yelling at me to make more room on the drive, but i cant possibly do that.  if i made that drive hidden, would i be able to get rid of that balloon pop up forever?

jsparrow: My new HP laptop comes with a 8GB recovery partition and its only 300 MB occupied! I'm thinking of resizing it with partition tools. You can try that too.

If you have a version higher than Home Premium, you can use GPE (Group Policy Editor) Under Windows Components to hide any drive from Windows Explorer.

If you do not have a version higher than Home Premium, you can add/modify a value in the registry that will accomplish this.

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/hide-drives-from-your-computer-in-windows-vista/

This is the process I have used in the past to hide my floppy drive, and my ReadyBoost enabled flash drive. NOTE: This will not stop anyone from accessing the drives, it will only hide them from Windows Explorer.
