Sony also announces Blu-ray remote.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has released its first update for the PS3 (PlayStation 3), adding support for the Blu-ray remote and more Blu-ray video outputting options.

PS3 owners in the US who download the version 1.30 update will find that selecting video output resolution has changed, and they’re now able to choose all the resolutions supported by the TV. The video will automatically be displayed at the maximum resolution possible, according to the following order: 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, Standard (NTSC).

A Backup utility has been added as a feature under System Settings, enabling users to back up their PS3's hard disk data to storage media or restore data from storage media to the hard disk.

Furthermore, USB peripherals designed for PlayStation 2 titles, including steering wheels and flight sticks, can now be used when playing PlayStation 2 games on the PS3 system.

The announcement also reveals that the PS3 Blu-ray Remote will be available to US users for $24.99 (£13) "later this month".
