Move to another forum if necessary.

Since installing SP2 everything seems to be working well. No problems found so far with any of the software I'm using. However it does take about 5-6 mins to boot up and give me everything on desktop and taskbar. I have absolutely nothing checked in msconfig/startup. Have not found anything that seems to point me in the right direction yet. I'll try defragging later today. I usually do that late on Sunday afternoon while I watch golf on TV. Anyone have any other pointers for me?

See if the workstation service was enabled by sp2. If so, and if you are not on a lan, disable it.

Allan, It was set to automatic. I changed it to disabled. I then rebooted (only once so far) and I came up in a normal time frame. I'll be watching it for the next day or so to make sure that was it though.

Ok, that apparently was not the solution. The computer did boot up quickly just after the workstation service change. I only restarted it that one time. Today its back to approx 4.5 mins to completely finish booting. Also, after the computer has been on for awhile, programs start taking 3-4 minutes to load up, literally!! I double click on an icon and wait for a couple of minutes and then an opening screen appears and another minute or so and the program becomes usefull. It took just over three minutes to go from my desktop to this forum reply.

The workstation service is only necessary if you're on a network.

((((((((( same sort of problem ))))))

Hey guys

I just installed sp2 today and after is downloaded and was installed my computer was running very smoothly.

However I just turned it on again and it took 4-5 mins to get into my desktop and the icons were taking another 1 min to load up.

Also its very slow when I click a command to maximise or minimise or open any foldes.

How do I acces 'workstation' ? and change it?

Thanks
