I am currently at the Microsoft MVP global summit and had some time to talk with Lyon Wong, an employee working on the Virtual Folders feature of Windows Vista.  Various MVP's brought up the topic that the term, virtual folders is too confusing for normal (non geek) computer users because it sounds too much like a traditional folder, even though it is very different.  Lyon acknowledged that they have received a lot of complaints about the naming of the feature but do not currently know of a name that is any better.  During the conversation I promised to post some quick questions for all of the visitors of TweakXP.com; so here they are:

Do you find the term Virtual Folders confusing?

Do you have any other suggestions for the name of the feature?

For those of you that don't know what Virtual Folders are, they are basically a saved search of the files on your computer that is constantly updated.  E.G.  You could have a virtual folder of all documents written by a specific person.  No matter where they are on your computer, the Virtual Folder technology will find them and present them all to you in a consolidated view.

1. The All Documents virtual folder should include folders in your Documents folder, not just the files (or at least they should change the link on the start menu)

2. "Virtual Folders" might confuse some newbies. I can't think of a good name right now, but it should be something along the lines of "Saved Searches" or something about catergories, something that will suggest that they include files from all over your hard drive based on certain criteria.

2.  My suggestion would be to name the feature something like Tracker or PinPoint.
