I'm seriously contemplating purchasing the above S/W for my home PC. Before I part with my pounds, is anyone on here using it? and if so is it any good.

Many thanks.............

Personally I would avoid McAfee and go for Norton AV.  There are oher software firewalls available, and the most talked about being Norton, Sygate and ZoneAlarm Pro.

Have a look around for independant reviews on each of them  before you part with your cash.

I agree, McAfee products are terrible. I would recommend Norton for AV and either Outpost or Sygate for a firewall.

For what is it worth I love my NAV 2003 and although others may disagree (which they are entltield to) I like the ZA  (freebie) Firewall.

I think we all will agree though that  some kind of firewall/router and an AV program are necessary!

Why do you believe that Mcafee products are terrible?

I've been using McAfee for years and it never ever gave me one problem.  In fact McAfee Firewall effectively intercepted some attempted attacks on my PC and showed me (in graphic) the source - through layer and layer of computers.  Unless there is something that NAV have and McAfee lack in terms of security, I think I will stick with it.

McAfee Gave Me Alot of problems.. to start off with the AV program.. once after i finishdoing a virus scan.. it didnt allow me to access MSCONFIG nor CMD and the reason why i couldnt back up anything was because McAfee autmomatically deleted the files that were infected. yes Norton AV does the sam but for some reason i havent had any problems with Norton AV... McAfee is very slow to me.. and i consider Norton way better than McAfee ive tryed to give McAfe a chance like 3 times and stil all i get is problems... ive never tryed the firewall... but McAfee is gettin together with AOL which i dont like ... and i rather not have anything to do McAfee .. as for Nortan Anti-Virus IVE NEVER has a problem with it... and the Automatic Update is great.. i love it...

oh and Syagte Firewal is the best.. kinda hard for " ME " to control but its the best...

JareXP - Like everything else, McAfee and NAV software also have negative and positive comments and reviews, and this has been that way for many years.  Needless to say, McAfee and NAV are the most popular AV on the market and they are a formidable competitor of each other.  Which one is better than the other is how you perceive it.  Here at TweakXP, my point of view is that we should at least refrain ourselves from getting into an endless debate.  Just my thoughts

BTW - people comes here for help so let's try to keep this as our primary objectives.
