Hi, it's me again. My second and hopefully last issue now since installing SP2 is that I keep getting errors while trying to use LiveUpdate for Norton AntiVirus, (all other updates in liveupdate work fine). I have Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier. Here is the error I get when installing the antivirus updates:

Norton AntiVirus 2005 Program Update (English)

Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2

NAVNT 11.0.2

LU1812 - A program that was part of this update failed when it ran. This update was not applied.
I googled and searched high and low, (including symantec.com) for an answer and only came up with 3 things. The first was to uninstall/reinstall Norton Antivirus. I did that twice and then did it for the entire systemworks package. This hasn't helped. The second was to run liveupdate, reboot, run again, repeat process possibly up to 5 times. That didn't work. The third was this:

change HEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/filesystem
and change NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation in the registry to 0 unisntall Norton and run the Updates everything should work fine.

That didn't help either. Any help with this issue would be appreciated. Thank You.

I hate to reference anoterh site - but in this case as it seems Symantec was no help - you might try this!  Last entry in the thread!

Thanks for the reply. As usual, you guys here at tweakxp.com are awesome!

It looks like I was close to a fix. After a search of my registry, all NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation values were already set to 0 except for the one I changed. What I didn't do was follow the Add/Remove uninstall with the Symantec uninstaller and then search for and delete all Symantec and Norton references in the registry. So, I'm off to give it a try. I will post back with the results.

You guys really saved me.  My POP3 stopped working and my system was running unbelievably slow so I used the control panel to uninstall NIS 2005 and after reinstalling, NAV 2005 would not update with Liveupdate.  I uninstalled, reinstalled, used the Symantec SymNRT removal tool and was going nuts scouring the Internet after the Symantec site seemed fruitless.

When I read this post I recalled fiddling with the registry a while back on 8.3 naming and sure enough it wasn't set right.  I did a search and replace on all entries, uninstalled using control panel and used SymNRT.  I then reinstalled and it works great.  All components are updating correctly (which the 8.3 registry edit fixed), POP3 works great (that was an unrelated issue by the way - it worked after the first reinstall), and the performance is great (again, performance came back with the first reinstall).

Thank you so much!!!!

Glad you got it sorted and thanks for the feedback - maybe it can help someone else later on!
