| OK - ya'll can laugh at me all you want - but I had a real senior moment today! As some of you may remember, I tried to install SP2 awhile back and it failed and I went thru the remove SP2 etc fiasco. Well, I updated my BIOS (not sure that helped or not), but I used a different SP2 cd today and installed SP2 - without any problems. Being the type that does not like things updated on my system without my saying so - I elected to turn Windows Auto Update off as soon as the choice appeared right after the reboot! So I was merrily playing with my Security Center - setting it up similiar to what I had set up (and am happy with) months ago on the wife's system. Making a couple of security type adjustments in OE etc. Then I spotted a reminder (on another forum) of a critical windows update and decided to check it out. I ran the wife's Windows Update and got nothing. So I ran it on this system and was surprised to see 4 Critical Updates that I needed. I thought how is that possible - I was current before installing SP2? Well, then the clouds parted, the sun shone through, I heard the hallelujahs and I felt like a complete dummy! By my turning off auto update, I stopped the 4 critical updates from being downloaded and installed - when they should have been right after installing SP2. So I guess the bottom line and I find this curious as I have (I thought) tried to cover all bases prior to installing SP2, is if you are going to turn off Auto update at the drop of a hat (as I did) - make sure you check for updates as soon as you are back up and running. I went back into the wife's system and the 4 updates were in fact installed on hers after SP2. Now that I think about it, it only makes sense that my SP1 current was not SP2 current! The bottom line is I just thought I'd pass this info on for some others who may be as seniorly challenged (or Blonde) as I am. Maybe in addition to a reminder to defrag after installing SP2 another good tip would be to run Windows Update also!

| Depends . . . . get it! I think my 1st. SP2 disk from Microsoft had a virus on it and that's why this computer didn't like it! I downloaded the network install of SP2, fixed the drivers in the SP2.cab folder for firewire, and I'll try it out on my wifes computer first! Live and learn, then try SP2 again! Treeman
