When working in Word 2003 and trying to use the webtools toolbar, I clicked on embedding a sound into my document and got the following error: "This object was created in HTMLInlineSoundCtl. This application is not available to open this object. Make sure the application is properly installed and that it has not been deleted, removed or renamed." It seems that after installing SP2 this is what happens to Word 2002, and Word 2003, this also won't let you insert movies, sound, or scrolling text I found an article on Microsoft about it but it was dated October 2004. Does anyone have any further info on this...????

Okay, so I sent an email to Microsoft whining about the money I spent for the office product and now I can't use some of the tools that I have purchased because their SP has broken them and no fix in sight on their Knowledge base... So far I have recieved two emails from their outsourced people, and one from right here in Good Ole USA... Nothing suggested has worked yet.... I will post what the final outcome is.....

No Fixes yet !! And Microsoft refuses to answer my request on my trouble ticket... Just negative response.. I put a reply when opened on my email to update my ticket with another request of what is happening and I see where someone has read it --- BUT NO RESPONSE.... The least they could do is reply as to what they will or will not do with this problem, but ignoring me just irritates me all the more... They don't seem to realize that more and more companies are putting alternative software on the shelves... I DON'T have to buy M$ft products... Check back periodically, I will keep bugging them to see what happens.... I email them for an update every week....

In answer to your questions, YES on both counts.... I have identical software at work and we have not loaded SP2 because of possible negative effects on the network and everything works fine there. Everything worked fine on my home machine also, until I loaded SP2..... Anyway, here is what I received today: "My name is Sangeeta and I am the Team Manager for Microsoft Support. This is in reference to the case number mentioned above. We would like to inform you that we have refunded your incident. You can use this incident again, anytime in the future. We apologize for the delay and the inconvenience cau sed to you." I have responded to this person and asked what they mean by "refunded" but it is pretty obvious that it is closed and they have no intention of trying to fix the issue that their SECURITY has screwed up... I waited a couple of months before applying the SP2 also, in the hopes of finding out what all it did and if it would affect me. But alas, I didn't see anything on this until I tried to use my office products as I have before Now I have a decision to make, whether to remove SP2 or buy some other software to do the tasks that I want . Obviously Microsoft doesn't care !!

As promised, here is the address that I first sent my request to. Good Luck.... wrhelp@microsoft.com This is the body of my first email : When trying to insert sound, movies, or scrolling text into a word document, I get this reject...... "This object was created in HTMLInlineSoundCtl. This application is not available to open this object. Make sure the application is properly installed and that it has not been deleted, removed or renamed." I notice you have an article, KB 886299, stating that this reject exists after loading SP2 for XP. It affects Word 2002, and Word 2003 but the article is dated 14 October 2004, and no updates since that time...... Is there a fix or work around for this ??? IF not, when I can expect to see something to give me back the tools and options that I paid for when I purchased this office product....
