Okay, this question just comes up so often that I, for one, am tired of seeing it .

So everyone who wants to give his or her opinion please do so here. Let's not argue about anything or question anyone else's choice, let's just state our preferences so those who want to read differing opinions can do so here. If you have very strong feelings about other programs (good or bad) go ahead and express them. Then when the question comes up in the future we can just point to this thread. One post per person should probably suffice (okay, wishful thinking ).

I'll start. I like Norton Anti Virus. I've been using it since its first incarnation, generally get the new version each year, and have never had a virus or any problem with the software. I don't care how large the program is and it's certainly never "slowed down" my system. It's always active and I also use it to scan incoming email. Of course I also use a couple of spyware prevention utilities in conjunction with the AV, but that's another topic.

Well, it seems that all the responses to this post are somewhere on the forum, but did not attach when we updated the software. Sooooo, feel free to post again. BUT PLEASE - one post per person stating your preferences and thoughts. No arguments - no "defensive" posts.

NOD 32 for the best speed and detection overall.

KAV for just detection.

NOD32 for just speed.

Can't go wrong with either.

i think that the best anti-virus is definately Panda Anti-virus Titanium from Staples because if you ever have any problems because of a virus that panda didn't catch, or something of that sort, Panda will automatically pay for, or replace, or fix the problem.

1)  NOD32
2)  Avast
3)  AVG

I wouldn't even consider using anything else.  I've tried them all, and the apps like Norton, Kaspersky, McAffee, etc ... although they may be good at detecting and quaratining viruses ... they are just way too "bloated" for my taste.  Norton and Kaspersky cause a significant lag in overall performance when you've got them running in the background.  McAffee has caused problems for more people than I can count.  And we all know the problems that Norton can cause in terms of uninstalling it.

The 3 I have listed above (NOD32, Avast, and AVG) are the best of both worlds.  They provide very good virus detection, and don't put a drain on your system resources.  I personally use NOD32, which isn't free, but the other 2 offer free versions.
