Does anyone know how I can configure the built in XP firewall so that I am able to send files using MSN Messenger 6.0 without first having to disable it?

Thanks

yay found it, it should b put somewhere so every 1 can find it

this works with all messenger versions, msn and windows, on the xp os.

>advanced
>settings

click 'add'

then fill out as follows...

discription:                 filesend
name of ip address....: firstcomputer

intenal port no.:          6891

check that tcp is selected

now ok the boxes

(restart may b necicary)

If any problems with this, download either the Sygate or Zone Alarm firewall.  Both will allow you to send and receive files with IM 6.0. without any additional configurations.  You may/may not be aware of the fact that with IM 6.0 you can also send/receive "multiple Files".  I send up to 4 music files at once totalling upto 12MB's in size.

ICF is more trouble than it is worth in my opinion. Disable it and use Sygate. Recent versions of ZoneAlarm also has problems such as True Vector errors.
