| I heard an interesting comment by some virus guru on the radio about choosing the right Anti-Virus software. He said when choosing this kind of software never ever go for the big software brands like Norton because the ppl who create viruses are using the most popular software to try and find a way around it. He said if you want a great anti-virus program, choose one that isn't so popular because these hackers always try to conquer the big guns to comfort their big heads

| Whatever that guy you listened to is, he is NOT a guru. Norton AV is the best. Period.
You don't find a way around an AV - no AV can guaranty to catch a new virus. But the BIG NAMES will identify a new virus and put out a definition (fix) quickly.

| Virii aren't written to go around AV software, they are written to exploit some flaw in your OS, or get themselves installed by trickery. Someone has to get infected with the virus, then the AV companies work on identifying and blocking that virus. I would rather have a larger very reputable software company like Symantec instead of Joe Blogg's AV Suite. Was this guy selling AntiVirus software?

| Well, that's what the guru said, Allan... NAV is among the biggest. But I think you've got a point too: NAV comes up with a fix quickly.
You know, there are even people around who claim that it's the anti-virus companies themselves that keep creating viruses as to make sure they remain in business. We will never know.

| Norton AntiVirus does script blocking, and only runs when a script is executed.

| | wasn't there a thread started not too long ago saying that norton was not the best and sygate was? people were saying that it was too processor intesiver and was buggy. mabe i am wrong but but im pretty sure. I am a NAV and NPF user and always will be! |
