I'm trying to turn my old 98 comp into a gaming comp. But most of games I have now only run on windows XP! Of course! So is there a way I can put XP on my windows 98?:)

PDFs on a PDA...

Hi,
I have been considering buying a PDA but so far I don't know which of them do what I want to do.
The reason I posted this under Software/OS is that I don't know if it's a software or a hardware issue.
I've been looking at the lower-priced model, the Palm Z22. I've found a place that sells refurbished ones for cheap, but if I were to buy it I would want to make sure I know that it'd do what I want it to, which is (a) have a calendar, (b) have an alarm system, (c) have a note-taking system, and (d) read PDFs. Internet Access isn't something I'd need in a PDA; I'm just trying to slim down my note-taking system.

Which Palms read PDFs, if any?
Also, which other companies manufacture worthwhile PDAs?
Sorry, I'm really new to the world of PDAs.

Start Up Unstable on PC

Need a hand if at all possible...

This morning my PC decided to be a "stinker" and not start up properly. It begins by freezing on Abit 64 screen, and will stay there until I double-tap my Tab key...this just "majically" began???

I have an AMD Dual Core 64

Core Processor +4800

2.41GHz, 2.00 Gig of Ram

Any clue maybe??

how to unlock window XP media center

Anybody has any information about how to unlock a computer. My computer locked up on me i rebooted it and it ask me for a password which i never set up . It is asking for server password.

I bought a dell computer sometime ago, and it came with windows media center edition(I believe anyway) now, a year later I needed to reinstall windows on my computer, and I want to know, since I never got an OS cd with this computer, can I do that slipstreaming stuff with the original? or is there anyway I can create a windows cd from the files already on my hard drive?

Well, story is this.....

Decided to finish the updates earlier today on my AMD K6-III PC (yes, its working fine now.... yay)....

Well, went to windows update and it downloaded and installed fine..... but when I restarted my PC I found a huge suprise... the entire "Programs" section including Assessories and all them goodies had been removed... gone... and I do not know how to restore them. I can restore some of them by reinstalling but that would be a very large hassle.

The programs are still on the PC and all its just they are not in the start menu anymore. Any ideas????

firefox bookmarks

Can anybody help, I think i've lost the 'link' for my bookmarks, they have disappeared from the drop down menu yet when I do a search of all files and folders under 'bookmarks' they are all still in there somewhere! I have done 2 restores to previous dates but they are still missing. How can I get them back to the drop down at the top of the screen?
I have been on my PC this morning and they were all there then, I shut down, went out and when I came back in and turned my PC on they has all gone!

i had this Os since last yr and i installed it once, but removed it cuz i had limited drivers. i tried installing it two days ago and its giving me and error msg at the screen at which you partition the hdd. Its says " hdlists not found " i was using a shared partition at first so i thought maybe i was doing something wrong but when i used a clean 40 gig drive i was getting the same problem ...

any suggestions .........

protecting disks from being copied

Hello every one,

I have been searching for so long to find out some sort of tools or way to protect CD & DVD disks but yet I have not found any solution at all.

I am trying to produce some Video Training in Kurdish language in Kurdistan, but the biggest problem I have is that, the law in there does not proetct copying and pirating original disks and as soon as the first copy is in the market then every one is able to copy it and I have been trying to find a solution for it, but nothing yet to be honest.

I would appreciate your help and assistance in this regard.

Paging Error On Windows 2000 SP4

I have a Windows 2000 SP4 box that tries to boot up when I am prompted with login box, it tries to load my profile and I get the following error:

"Your system has no paging file, or paging file is too small."

It shows me how I should change this by clicking My Computer > Advanced > blah blah blah...

The only problem is it never lets me login to set this and contines to throw me back to the login screen over and over even in Safe Mode. I don't understand how I can by bass this error and follow the steps it shows to resolve the problem when the Desktop never loads. I get the continuous loop of "Press Control + Alt + Delete To begin".

Please help!

Windows 98 with XP Pro

I have a home network with Windows XP Pro SP2 and current updates, and a Windows 98 with all available updates. The XP Pro machine is my main computer, with the 98 machine as the one to play with. I keep my ICQ, Yahoo, MSN and AOL clients running on that one to keep those off of this machine, and backup copies of most of what I've downloaded and purchased software too. Each machine can see each other just fine, as I can place a file in the shareddocs folder on either machine and have the other one see it in there just fine. So far, so good.

Well, here's where it gets weird...

If I double click on the Network Neighborhood icon on the 98 machine, I can see three things in this folder: Entire Network, the name of the 98 machine, and the name of the XP Pro machine. If I double click on the 98's icon, it takes me to the shareddocs folder. Still so far, still so good. I can see files that I've placed in there from both the 98, and the XP machine. Now...if I double click on the XP machine's icon from the 98 machine, I immediately get a prompt stating: "Enter Network Password" "You must supply a password to make this connection." I don't get this prompt doing it the other way around, from the XP machine to look into the 98's shareddocs folder. Still with me here?

What's interesting is that I've (as much as I hate to say this) never entered a password for networking OR when I installed XP Pro OR when I set up 98. In other words, when I boot my XP machine, it goes straight to the desktop. No password is needed. Same thing for the 98 machine.

Since I'm the only one here and another account is not necessary for either machine, there is no need for a password, because there's only one user...me.

So the question is, what could possibly be the default password for networking, or where in the OS or registry can show me what it is? Could there also be a "universal password" for this type of situation for the first time, and then later change it? Universal password may not be a good term, but I think you see what I'm getting to here.

It's just an annoyance for the 98 machine to ask for a network password, while the XP machine does not. Other than that, file sharing between the two works well.

I hope that I've my scenario as clear as I possibly can. Sometimes it's hard to put into words what I see on my screen, so feedback or ideas will be GREATLY appreciated! :D
