I use an icon extraction program to pull icons from .dll and .exe files and save them as a .dll file of its own then in Properties of a shortcut and Change Icon just point to that file and click on the one I want to use. It gets around the file protection scheme of WinXP that keeps replacing its own files.

Change Windows Icons On Shell32.dll FOREVER

Hi, I have Windows Media Center Edition and I have already created a Shell32.dll in "Microangelo" software, I've change my "original" shell32.dll on several occasions, but this file and my system keep replacing it after a few sessions, can someone please help me?
