hey im having the same problem as well, i was planning to replace the default closed folder icon to the open folder icon. But with the "file protection system" on windows media center, its always overwriting the modified shell32.dll, with the original one every time.

And i cant try the safe mode (w/cmd) boot method as this OS is dual-booting with vista.

Anyone got around this?

I give the new .dll file a different name, not the same as what Windows uses. The Windows file protection scheme gets in the way of replacing a number of the required files.

well, in fact, thats the problem, i make the "new" .dll an replace the older one, but it keep changing...i even change de /dllcache, but i get no response...

A different way works for me. I use an icon extraction program to pull icons from .dll and .exe files and save them as a .dll file of its own then in Properties of a shortcut and Change Icon just point to that file and click on the one I want to use. It gets around the file protection scheme of WinXP that keeps replacing its own files.

Hi, I have Windows Media Center Edition and I have already created a Shell32.dll in "Microangelo" software, I've change my "original" shell32.dll on several occasions, but this file and my system keep replacing it after a few sessions, can someone please help me?
