I have used this at work to organize icons on the desktop with a very basic webpage consisting of nothing more than a few tables with outlines and titles in each cell.

For your purposes, you could create a webpage that would be stored on your hard drive. The Active Desktop can be set up to use this webpage as your desktop background.

You would still be able to use normal icons independantly of the webpage, but you would also use hyperlinks in the background. You can use links to open other pages that you have set up with links to various task sets of your choosing, resulting in as many categories as you wish.

RE: Multiple "desktops"?

Knowing that the Desktop Folder is for the user [in C:\Documents and Settings] that is logged on to the computer, it probably would be necessary to create more user accounts in Control Panel then customize the contents of the Desktop Folder for each user. Logging off then logging on as a different user would give a different Desktop.

Multiple "desktops"?

Since the desktop on windows is nothing more than a folder located in each users documents and settings, is it possible (even theoretically) to tweak xp in such a way that I could create multiple "desktops?"

Allow me to give an example of what I mean:
I don't like a lot of clutter, so I organize most of the icons on my desktop into various folders containing an average of 6 or 7 icons in each folder. What I would like to see happen when I open one of those folders is for another complete desktop w/ icons and start bar appear. Of course a rudimentary back button or folder tree would need to be placed somewhere to navigate between the desktops.

So essentially what I'm wanting is a "web" of desktop folders that only goes 1 layer deep (i.e. only one parent folder)

____________________Desktop Parent__________________
=====================|====================
============/~~~/~~~/~\~~~\~~~\==========
Desktop Childs:---1----2------3--4------5-----6

Anyway, enough rambling. Can it be done?
