So perhaps I should have check my TweakUI setting before the previous posting. XP SP3 changed my setting.

That said, I find the small arrow non-obtrusive and sufficiently useful to preserve.

Thanks for correcting me.

Rick/Portland, OR

RE: Shortcut icon arrow

TweakUI offers the option to use the large arrow, the small arrow, or no arrow. There is no reason not to use any of these options. There is absolutely no harm in not having a shortcut arrow.

RE: Shortcut icon arrow

TweakUI will remove the large shortcut arrow. As you now know, XP preserves a small shortcut arrow.

This is certainly an improvement, but the small arrow conveys important functionality, and you should think twice before you attempt to obliterate it. For example, many programs and applications install shortcuts to the Start Menu > Programs folder, including shortcuts to the uninstaller. Alas, if you trace the target, you will find the uninstaller where you least expect it, sometimes amongst the Windows system files.

When you 'clean up' the Programs folder entries, I recommend right dragging undesired shortcuts to the main application folder. Right click the shortcut, click Properties > Find Target, and determine if the target file is within that folder. If so, go ahead and delete the shortcut. If not, particularly if the shortcut is an uninstaller, leave it alone.

Rick/Portland, OR

RE: Shortcut icon arrow

Welcome:)
Download install Tweakui:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe
Launch Tweakui, click on 'Explorer' then click on 'Shortcut' in the left hand column.
In the right hand pane under 'Shortcut overlay',select 'None'.
Click Apply/OK,restart your pc.

Shortcut icon arrow

Anyone know how to get rid of the little arrow that is on shortcuts in XP.
