How to hide a particular icon from the Taskbar

Hi,
I have a PC which is also used by some of my friends.The problem is that I use some programs that are for my personal use and I don't want anyone to see them or tinker with them. But when Windows starts they show up in the taskbar.I want them to not show up in the taskbar but run in the background.Please suggest me how can I hide the [b] particular[/b] icons from the taskbar without shutting them off.I don't want to hide them using the option Taskbar>Properties>Customize>Always hide, because it is too easy to see them by by clicking the Show hidden icons button.I want to use a more secure and fullproof technique like by hacking the registry.Please help!

Prevent XP Power Down

Hi,

Is it possible to stop XP from switching off the Power supply after it has shut down? ie I would like it to work like Windows 95 type, where it tells you "It is now safe to turn off your computer" and then you switch it off at the button.

For some reason I do not have a APM check box under my Power Options at the Control Panel. I'm running XP sp2.

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Removing Shadows Under Icon Names

I just got my desktop back, and I can't seem to remove the shadows under the icon names.

I am trying to defragment my fragments :) the drive is a lot of red and it tells me I only have 7% that is free and I need 15% to defragment how do I free up enough space to give a complete defragmentation ? I have deleted a lot of deadwood but can only make 7% , am afraid to delete much more in case I do wrong , please help me

Rearrange items in rhe right-click menu of a file or folder

My problem is : I have "Crea collegamento" (create shortcut) placed between "Copia" (copy) and "Elimina" (delete), in the menu appearing when I right click a file or a folder. It often happens that I click "Crea collegamento" by mistake when I want to copy or delete a file and I hate it. I don't want to delete this option, I just want to place it where I can't click it by mistake, is there a tweak for doing this?

Hi,

I am using XP pro.

when i try to open unknown file , "open with " menu appear. I select one programme say Notepad to open it.

At the bottom of that menu, checkbox for "Always use the selected programe to open this kind of file" is disabled.

I to activate that.

desktop themes not fully integrating

hello
recently i re-installed my OS on a new harddrive. everybody knows when this happens you are going to have to reinstall all the software you had before, except the stuff you never used.
one of my most used pieces of software was my desktop themes.when i change to a theme now, part of the theme does not change.it is the window styles and fonts. the little windows on the taskbar or the start menu button itself would become rounded instead of square edged. the fonts would change colors as well as styles. it would integrate into eveything that would be active on the desktop programs visual styles changed as well.
this was the best part of the theme that changed. no more plain looking the same computer.
what can be done?

desktop start window won't stay open

I have several computers running winxp sp2, all with identical settings as best I can control, because I like the convenience. On 1 computer,a dell laptop, inspiron 8200, when I right click start from desktop and click [open all users], the start menu flashes open and then closes. It will stay open if I depress the Ctrl button, but closes on release. If I right click Start and select [explore all users], the window stays open like it should. All other computers do not have this problem. No other problems seem to be present. I have done all preliminary malware checks and scans and nothing has surfaced. Is there a setting or registry entry that controls this issue?

Hello everyone, i was just wondering i was reading up on how to increase internet connection and noticed that i cannot find "{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}" in my NameSpace folder. I did not touch this folder before and cannot see that folder. Is there a problem if i continue? I also noticed when im in Command Prompt window where you're supose to see a bunch of numbers ..my Ip address pops out and tells me i cannot connect. Help anyone? lol

As you can tell by the caption I stupid and need some help. I bought the book "Hacking Windows XP" and i'm having some trouble putting a new boot screen on my computer. I downloaded bootskins like the book said and went to another website and downloaded the ones I wanted and previewed them and applied them but, when I restarted my computer it was the same lame boot screen. Whats the deal with that.:w00t:

On XP, how do I remove the lon screen? I just want to boot straight into windows without any clicking of lon screen screens or user accounts. Thanks
