Well if it only has 512Mb ram then yes, XP is the way to go. But even then you'd be better off with more memory. Given the price of ram these days you may want to consider it.

1 GB minimum in my experience, is the point at which it quits lagging. I recommend 2 GB or more for optimal pleasure while running it. :)

Thank you for your speedy reply.
What i hope to gain? Some speed and usability really. Its painfully slow.
It did come with Vista preinstalled, has a 3ghz processor, but only 512mb of RAM, which im guessing is the bare bones to get by with it?
My Dad only uses it for surfing so doesnt need much in the way of an operating system, im just hoping for a system that when he actually clicks something it [i]does[/i] something if you see what i mean.
Whats the ideal system requirements to run Vista without it continually seizing up?

I'm not sure what you expect to gain by going from Vista to XP unless the system is "underpowered" (and if it came with Vista installed I'm guessing it's not). However, to answer you question no, you should not run into any problems.

Hello
Im trying to sort out my Dads pc, it is a Compaq SG3002UK [i]i think[/i].
It came with Vista preinstalled and has a real hard time running it, ive been pulling my hair out with it, its soooo slow.
I have a copy of XP pro that i am seriously considering installing on it, but will this cause it any problems?
Ive done loads of XP installs before so dont need any pointers there, but once ive formatted and all that am i likely to run into any probs?
