Just make sure you verify that the flash drive or sd card you get meets the 2ms requirment of Vista... hard to do unless you know someone that is already using that exact product, aside from that you got to do like me and keep purchasing flash memory until you find 1 it likes. I use my 512mb creative Zen Nano mp3 player for now until my 2gig SD card comes in the mail. I was told that ready boost realy helps laptops with lower memory because it almost ditches using the slower hard drive as backup memory and uses the much faster flash memory to boost performance in 1 way or another. mostly in windows and background services from what I understand.

RE: memory used by vista

I see. I looked at my daughters toshiba laptop and it had the same thing 50-60% memory usage while about idle. So that is cool. And I guess I was just trying the outlook express right after startup because after awhile it comes up allright. Thanks for the info on this Allan.;)

RE: memory used by vista

Are you talking about when the system first boots or during the entire session? As for disabling services that you are 100% certain are not needed, that's fine.

RE: memory used by vista

It just seems that this laptop is very laggy. In outlook express it is downloading messages before the inbox page is up. The outline of the page is there but just that. I was thinking of going through Black Viper's services for vista and using the safe one. What do you think? I also have most everything shut down at startup.

RE: memory used by vista

Actually, assuming you have Superfetch enabled Vista should use all available memory. Whatever isn't being used by running programs is being used to cache files that Vista thinks you'll want to use. The more memory being used by Vista, the more efficiently the OS serves you.

memory used by vista

I was just looking at the task manager and it showed that over half of the one gig of ram was being used. I just wanted to know if this is normal for vista?
