The story goes this plane landed at an airfield in Prince George B.C.Canada to be serviced.
I was at Anahiem Lake B.C. fishing. I saw a beaver come in. It landed not to far from the Lodge. At the lodge dock they loaded it up with all kinds of camping gear & 3 canoes strapped to the struts that go from the fusalage to the floats. The pilot taxied to the far end of the lake & gassed it. All I could see was a couple of wing tips a prop. & the front of the floats sticking out of a cloud of water spray. after about a mile the pilot got 1 float out of the water. the plane travelled on like that till I lost site of the plane behind some trees. I was expecting to see a fire ball rise into the sky. but they climbed out way down the lake. it was very impressive

When the plane is not amphibious [no wheels in the floats] there's not many choices for takeoff from land. Landing on grass isn't too bad as the pilot wants to lose the speed but it takes too much power for takeoff from grass. Putting it on the trailer to get up to 'rotate' speed [or takeoff speed] is clever, quite similar to when an aircraft carrier turns into the wind to give pilots an extra amount of lift.

A float plane taking off using a dollie. I believe the plane is a Beaver. as you can see by the fire trucks. they weren't to sure about this take off. they sometimes land float planes on grass.[url]http://www.alexisparkinn.com/photogallery/Videos/2006-3-21_Dolley_takeoff.wmv[/url]
