External Harddrive - Space not updating

I have an external hard drive and I recently deleted a program that was 6 gigs off of it; however, it is still displaying the space available before the deletion. How can I get it to update? I tried unplugging and re-plugging, deleting other stuff--all to no avail. Thanks!

Super Slow Printing

I'm not sure if I'm in the correct topic forum, but today (and only today) my printer is really giving me a problem....I try to print something (or even when I try to make a copy, it's one of those all in one printers) it prints like one line every 30 sec. to a min. I just replaced the ink (black) cartridge and that's when it started the slow print....even when I try to make a color copy it's the same....Would you be able to help?

Unexpected Shutdown

Hey guys. I got a brand new Dell Inspiron 1525 for college graduation. It works great, but once in a while it shuts down unexpectedly. I havent actually seen it do this, but I'll know about it because I'll open the lid and see it sitting at the Start Windows Normally (etc) screen. Below is a log of the error from the Problem Reports and Solutions application. Any ideas? Thanks!

Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini needs to be formated

Hi Everybody

I have Win XP Home,

WDC WD400BB-75CLB0Field Two Partitions C: Drive 20 GB, E: Drive 20GB

WDC WD800JB-00ETA0 F: Drive 80GB

Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini 250GB USB G: Drive

All was working well when I shut my computer off this morning. This afternoon upon restart the Maxtor shows up as un formated. The Maxtor is seen in device manager and working correctly, USB ports have no ?'s. It is also seen in My Computer as local disc G:. In My Computer the Maxtor used to be recognized as "Maxtor Mini". Size and free space are also not available.
When I double click G: I am told the drive is not formated & would I like to format it.

I have shut down unplugged drive, restart, shut down. plugged drive in again and started.

I installed SP3 2 days ago, all was working fine until now.

Update: Removed & Reinstalled drivers & tried different USB ports, no joy.

Do you think I lost my data?

NAS backup drive for my home computer network

I've been looking for a NAS drive to use as a backup for my home computer/network. I'd like a better place to store all our pictures, videos, music, and files off my personal computer. I currently use a LaCie USB drive for the backup. But the program I use, called Memeo, is not very reliable.

I've been looking at a LaCier 1TB Ethernet Big Disks which comes with software for auto backup, can stream music, pictures and video and should have more than enough space for us to put our kids movies on the computer and play them thorugh an adapter to our TV.

However, I've read some people that say these NAS drives use two 500G drives not one 1TB drive. And if one of the two drives fail, then you have lost all your data with no chance of recovering it. Is this true? I don't care about the videos, but the pictures are very, very important.

I could use some input on NAS backup and being sure I get the right thing. I've seen some NEA housings where you put your own hard drives in them. Is that a better choice? I'm not sure what software comes with the LaCie equipment but I don't want to spend hundreds on the software in addition to an expensive backup drive. And I'm not a networking expert, so I need this to be simple to do.

Two network adapters at the same time.

XP PRO SP2

I have two network cards connected to my PC, one is a usb wifi adapter and the other is a PCI Ethernet adapter.
I use the wifi adapter to connect to my router, I would like to use the Ethernet adapter to setup a peer to peer connection to my other computer.
How can I do this without affecting my internet access?
Each time I connect the two computers directly; I am unable to access the net because Windows get confused.

Oh yess I almost forgot, I am using Hamachi, TightVNC, zFTPServer and Abyss Web Server. They all work together except each time a load Abyss Web Server; I have to specify a port other 80 to get it to work.

I want to do this to transfer files to my file server as fast as possible using a ftp client.

Printing Problems

Hello,

Um, let me set this up. I have a laptop and a PC. The PC is directly connected to our wireless router. This laptop connects to the internet wirelessly. Recently my PC crashed because of a trojan. I had to completely re-boot the PC. It basically went back to the original factory settings. I had previously printed from my laptop to an HP LaserJet printer connected directly to the PC. After the complete re-boot of the PC, I have been unable to print from my laptop.

I would just use a USB drive to transfer any documents I need to print, but I recently purchased Microsoft Office 2007, and my family would prefer that I don't put that on the PC as well.

When I go to add a printer, I know the name of the network I need to connect to, but it says "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server." I have also tried printing an excel document, and then in the printer window, selecting "find printer" but all it says is "The Directory Service is currently unavailable."

I have tried several things including disabling sharing on the PC, restarting, and then enabling sharing. I'm not very computer literate, so I don't know if any of my methods would have been effective anyway...

Any help would be great.

Monitor Fault

I'm having some problem with the monitor. After removing the main monitor plug (the big 3-pins one), i dont see the Fujitsu Siemens BIOS screen. And after the Windows XP bootscreen I dont see anything. Its completely black.
But when I restart the computer and press F8 just before the XP bootscreen and then go on to "Enable VGA mode", I'm able to see everything but my graphics card isn't working with this mode. I see everything big.
How do I fix this problem?

Mysterious display problem - Dell Inspiron 8500

Using Dell Insipron 8500 laptop, OS Win XP Pro.

My display screen shows all sorts of squiggly lines and interference at startup, making icons etc very hard to see. But after the laptop has "warmed up" for about 10 minutes or so (and I "wash" the screen with my screen-saver), the display clears up and remains so until next time I turn the laptop on. These are the things I have tried (all without success):

Run all the Dell diagnostics - no errors detected;
Connected laptop via VGA port to an external monitor;
Replaced video card (Nvidia GeForce 4 4200 Go);
Replaced motherboard;
Replaced HD;
Replaced CD/DVD ROM drive;
Disabled video card in the Windows > System > Hardware profile;
Uninstalled all the video card drivers using Driver Cleaner;
Reformated HD, reinstalled Window OS and Office Pro;
Replaced RAM (512MB);

As the external monitor (when connected) shows the same problem (and, after the "warm-up" and "wash" the screen is fine anyway), I can only assume there is not a problem with the display panel itself. What am I missing? (I also have a replacement CPU coming this week...). HELP! Many thanks...
