Hopefully FileHippo is a reliable source for spyware free downloads??

Thanks Richie. That link is very helpful since I've tried so many different versions at this point.

RE: programs not vista compatible

http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-cleantools.html.

RE: programs not vista compatible

There is hope afterall with version 7.5.7.0 and newer. Here is a quote from Nero's FAQ section that may shed some light on the matter.
Windows Vista is supported by Nero 7 since the version Nero 7.5.7.0.. Older versions of Nero 7 do not support Windows Vista. If you are trying to install Nero 7 from your original disc it is likely that there is an older version included on this disc. If you want to install Nero 7 on Windows Vista please be sure that you will only use our latest Nero 7 version you can download from our website.
After some searching through their website, it seems that you need their "Cleantool" to remove all traces of older versions of Nero before proceeding with the newer version install.

Since hot linking is not possible (for me at least) I cannot give the URL here. You must search through their FAQ and Utilities for the proper links.

RE: programs not vista compatible

The program giving me a problem is Nero. Version 8 is current but does not have some features I need. I cannot get my early version 7 to install, the installer runs then says it is closing down. Later versions of version 7 do install for me, but they also are missing features I need.

RE: programs not vista compatible

I think the only way that question can be answered, is to try it and see what happens. Every computers' hardware and software configuration/combination is unique. Something that will work for one person, may not work for another.

But overall, besides the published list of known incompatible programs with Vista, your older software should operate fine. On the other hand, I have some very old floppy disk games that I installed on my XP Pro machine (because I missed playing them) and they ran so fast I could not play them, even in compatibility mode. I would imagine they were made for the slower CPU speeds, since a 386 processor was the norm back then.

RE: programs not vista compatible

Thanks for the link.

Is compatibility mode only for programs that are already installed, or can you also invoke compatibility mode when you are running the installation routine? The programs I've tried to install will not even complete the installation.

Thanks

RE: programs not vista compatible

I know this is not a clear answer to your question, but the link I'm about to submit will help shed some light on the matter.

The link can be found here.

RE: programs not vista compatible

Interesting reading, but nothing that addresses my question. Whenever I've told it to go ahead anyway, it has always been unable to complete the install. I am curious as to how it knows before the install of the potential problem. Does it maintain a database of non compatible programs? Is that list updated with Windows updates? Just curious.

Vince
