My friend had that other fingerprint scanner (one that is flagged by SP1) and the dl installed on his pc. ;) A backup is the best plan, I must agree. If you get the chance, snag Veesta Business edition. It has a built in backup util and lacks the "*edited*:hehe: features" of Ultimate(media center, etc):D.

RE: Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

I thought of that, but the truth is, I don't have a backup program other than a restore disc I created in the first days of using the laptop.

Looks like I'll be heading to Staples tomorrow and getting a copy of Ghost.

*note* I thought about using the restore disc many times in my head, if things went terribly wrong. But then reality kicked in. It took me weeks to get this laptop just the way I want it, and I can't bear to think of doing it again.

RE: Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

Well, if you want to try to install it anyway, create an image of your system partition (Ghost or True Image or whatever you use) and the download SP1 and see if will install. If anything goes wrong you can restore the image.

RE: Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

It seems that Vista SP1 isn't available for my brand new laptop bought just a month ago. At least, it's not available in the Windows Update section, or by the Automatic Updates for me.

Seems that I have a video driver for the Intel graphics that is flagged as incompatible for SP1, by this knowledge base article.

Looks like I'll have to wait until a proper driver is written, to upgrade. *sigh*

RE: Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

Well then, I guess it is doing some good :)

RE: Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

File copy/move actions are a zillion times faster since SP1. Also, all my USB devices are snappier. Its not a couple secs kinda snappier. Its more like 30-45 secs difference enabling a couple devices. It took over a minute off my wait on the login screen also (fingerprint login scanner (USB :D). Overall the system is a tad faster, possibly. :P

RE: Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

It's just a service pack :)

RE: Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

Yeah, I've seen people complain also how terrible their systems run now after doing it also. I always think those are the same people trying to upgrade to Vista without upgrading their hardware. My machine ran pretty fast to begin with, being that it's only about 3 months old. Although, you might be right about the placebo effect, I haven't experienced one hiccup and it seems slightly faster. You could be right though. One thing that I was hoping I would see, but I didn't was some new bells and whistles. That would have been really cool.

RE: Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

I updated two systems also (one desktop, one laptop). I haven't noticed any difference, but I really didn't expect to. On other forums I see some people say the same thing you do. Wonder how much of it is real and how much a placebo effect? :) - No offense intended Rob - if you say you see a difference I'm sure you do.

RE: Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

I did the update yesterday on my HP notebook and it went flawlessly. It seems a little bit more snappier and more stable. So far, I am very pleased with SP1. Now if I could just get myself a nice gaming system with Vista SP1 I would be in heaven. :P

Windows Vista SP1 Download (x32 and x64 versions)

Here's a link to both versions (5 language pack) on Microsoft Download.
