NORTON 360 is my personal favourite. It includes Antivirus/Antispyware, Firewall, PC Tuneup and Backup, while not affecting the system performance as much as some other security suites

I've never had any problems with Norton on my WinXP SP2 desktop system, and have just upgraded it to the 2008 version. This version seems a little speedier to me. I had been using AVG Free on my Vista Home Premium laptop, but found it to really slow down start-up and shut-down times. I've switched to Avast Personal on the laptop.....it has definitely cured the slow-start problem, but I'm not fond of the interface....I guess it just takes some getting used to. I'm going to try AVG again after the final release of Vista SP1 is made available, because I really liked AVG.

AVG Free is amazing, I've tried the others and would never go back.

I think the general advice here is sound, avoid McAfee and Norton (I've also had friends who had difficulty with OneCare and my initial opinion is that it is also complete crap but maybe people will disagree). Why pay for these ridiculous resource hogs that often don't even catch the viruses when a free alternative is both more effective and more efficient.

I've never had any system problems with AVG, its always caught viruses and dealt with them well. In fact, I'm studying in China at the moment and everyone's computers are going crazy with viruses, and while I'm slowly being called in to one room at a time to witness the most ridiculous infections I've ever seen, I simply uninstall their MacFee, Norton or OneCare and replace it with AVG and i haven't heard a peep from any of them since. Those results speak for themselves.

AVG is a good program but a word of caution in regards to it detecting Flooder.Ake which began to appear in December 2006. If detected, an alert pops up with "threat found, Trojan horse, heal now". Clicking the alert quarantines a critical system file, which after reboot can result in serious problems to your computer. The Flooder.Ake threat only seems to be impacting WIN XP/2000 users with AVG anti-virus. This issue is caused by a bug which gives a false detection of winlogon.exe. If the winlogon.exe file is moved or deleted by AVG and then the computer is restarted, it may get stuck in an infinite loop trying to reboot.

Click "Ignore" if you receive this alert. If you already have quarantined these files, then restore them right away. Winlogon.exe is a critical system file. If you delete that file you will not be able to logon into Windows after rebooting.

I'm a beta tester for Kaspersky Labs in their forums, and I also support Kaspersky all the way...NOD32 is okay...similar to Kaspersky, but their updates are nothing compared to Kaspersky. The only downside to KIS now is it uses too much resources on your PC. Lucky for me that I have 4GB of RAM in my rig:D

NOD32 w/o a doubt. Fast, great detection. Biggest downfall for me is the speed of the scans, but they detect nearly everything, I reccomend it to everyone.

I have used all sorts of anti-virus Programmes (All Orignal):-
1. Avast.
2. eTrust Internet Security. (Its not that helpful)
3. Bit Defender 9 Internet Security. (Excellent but useless because it does not detects all kinds viruses and trojans.
4. Norton Internet Security (Excellent Service but takes too much of RAM and is really slow)
5. Trend Micro PC-Cillin (This is not that user-friendly)
6. McAffee Security Suite 2006(Irritates me by always updating and stealing most of mine connection Speed.
7. AVG (Didnt Detect all kinds of trojans or viruses)
8. NOD32 (Takes too much RAM)
9. Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0

Now From these I found KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY 6.0 the best.
This is the perfect anti-virus security I have ever used because I have not even faced 1 problem with Kaspersky even though I do many non-sense things on the computer.
Now, I suggest you'll to only buy one antivirus that is Kaspersky and you'll be satsified;) !!

I have always bought my AV believing the big bucks CD's (no downloading) were the best. WRONG!..For years this was my belief and I too, loved Symantec Norton System Works "back when" it was considered lightweight. I have ALWAYS had the best you could buy (and still do) protection, antispyware, plenty of memory, big hard drive, loads of Free Space, you-name-it, plus Windows updates (Win XP) and treated my machine like a queen.

...Then Norton System Works 2006 came along & I was all set for a new love affair with it. I knew how to work this thing in my sleep but from the boxed version I couldn't see how "bloated" it had become - things I just don't care about & you can't disable some things and still keep what you want. It slowed my machine to a crawl. I would uninstall & reinstall and if I put down everything here as I documented for Symantec (a useless gesture), we would be here all day. It finally crashed my PC right before my eyes. I mean kaput; reformat - which no one wants to do!

So, bought latest Trend Micro PC-cillin from a well-known electronics store. It was beautiful and I loved it and still would, except for one thing... After one month, it began eating up my hard drive space by leaps and bounds; ie, it literally began growing on my hard drive (a top brand product can do that & not be any fault of your computer - it isn't common, mabe even rare). Bottom line, TM PC-cillin wanted ME to fix it from their lengthy & complicated instructions! I refused. Before they sent me, via email, a free newer version to download (normally, you opt for newest v. from the CD), I was having so much trouble & "red tape" just trying to get a response, I wouldn't touch it. MEANTIME, I did the unthinkable and panicking for an AntiVirus settled on the FREE AVAST FOR WINDOWS XP. It is wonderful!!

SO, AVAST, IT IS. I've had it long enough to feel free at last!...and I thanked them profusely. (The best to all of you whatever AV you use).

Choose Kaspersky ..

Best for fast virus detection..

I use Kaspersky Pro 5.0 and now free upgrade to Internet Security 6.0 or Anti-Virus 6.0.. heheh that the best..they give free upgrade..

And the new kaspersky I think is the best.. i just try it by downloading eicar virus test and .. when i just click the button to download the virus test, Kaspersky with fast reaction give a potential virus/program alert. thats the best..

And on 22 may 06 they just release a critical fix 1 (version 6.0.0.299 to 6.0.0.300).

Changes added since version 6.0.0.299:

EULA files have been fixed.
An error that could cause a BSOD while scanning the UP702W32.EXE file on a network drive has been fixed.
The application can now accept key files with product code 131 when version 5.0 is upgraded to 6.0.
Caching of information about previous scans for objects on network drives has been removed.
Automatic detection of the following third-party applications during product setup has been temporarily disabled:
- Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional
- Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2005
- Norton Internet Security 2005
Installation on computers running 64-bit operating systems has been allowed. (for Internet Security)

Maybe for the first time install i noticed that its make computer slow. Maybe to recognize all program when first time install and after perform a full scan and reboot my system it work as usual.

And i like their product with the new technology.TRY it ;).

I Would Say that Mcafee Internet Security Suite is the best..

I think that Norton Antivirus is too slow!!!!

Mcafee starts fast and works smart too!

So, i would recommend Mcafee Internet Security Suite....:cool:

Over the years used McAfee, Norton AV, AVG Pro, Avast!, and Panda Titanium. Consider best of the pack:
#1 Kaspersky
#2 NOD 32
Use both now , one on my desktop, one on the laptop.
