Normally we try to keep the technical questions out of the Welcome Thread - but I did find a reference for you to turn off the Welcome Center in Vista. Our Admin (Steve Sinchak ) tells us how here:

Hello,
I am not new to computing so I suppose I am not an expert but nor am I a complete beginner. I am comfortable altering the registry if necessary. In fact doing that prompted me to join your forum. I tried removing the Welcome Center by deleting it from the registry but on restart it returned. I'vr tried removing the check mark and also removing it from the start menu, so far it comes back on every restart. If anyone has any more ideas I'll willingly try them.
