With that said, my third computer was an IBM PC that had DOS 1.0 loaded on it so I had little choice in learning it.

Couple of things you can do, one I'd look and read all that you can at this site: MSDOS/Windows Command Help.

Another weaker option is to use the help command within a cmd box. Doing something like 'help | more' (without the quotes of course) will display most of the commands available. Don't forget to use 'help command_name' for help on the specific commands.

One more to consider would be this book: DOS Powertools

To this day, I do a lot of things in a command prompt, in some ways it's more efficient than using some of the Windows tools. Again though, depending on what you're trying to do, the Windows tools can be more efficient than using a command prompt. For someone trying to learn it might be frustrating, but then if your needs are there you'll get the hang of the basics pretty quick.

Larry

xp command line intrface

I would really like to learn how to use the command line interface. If anyone has any advice how to best do this I would greatly appreciate it.
