i vote Win98 :-) oh wait, that wasnt an option.
every OS when they come out with the Second Revisision becomes usable, especially after all the poor beta users test it in real situations. so i wouldnt touch that glorified XP thing untill they get it working right.
of course i am not about to toss various hardware items that barely made the XP transistion via the drivers to begin with.

you have one Huge advantage here, if your buying a FULL system with Vista and hardware, drivers, and software RTG, then you wont have the myriad of hardware problems an upgrade can have. so if you get a brand spanking new computer AND make sure all your hardware is added and operational before you walk out of the store, then it will be great.

for the rest of us poor saps with old hardware and obsoleted BY new os stuff, we will have to suffer through the evil old crusty XP :-)

if they would make New drivers, instead of trying to re-hash the old drivers, if everyone would support thier products , including software that is now Cheaper, sure and if we had world peace and i had a million dollers and a maid :-) like thats gonna happen . . .

ok sometimes its the money, 100 programs updated for perfect vista operation $10,000, 100 programs for windows98 $75 , hmm sometimes its not the car, but the gass you put in it :cool:

damnyank, that is an extension of the date, last I'd read was Microsoft would support WinXP until some time in 2010.

Never heard anything about dropping support for WinXP in 2008, perhaps for Win2000?

I have two PC's currently using XP Home and a new laptop running Vista Home Premium. I am satisified with both OS's, but I am not a gamer!

I read where XP Pro's Mainstream Support Retired date was April 14, 2009 and Extended Support Retired date was April18, 2014!

go with Vista.. XP isn't going to be supported in January 2008.

Right now I am using WinXP. If you want to use your computer for gaming or if you want to use more software , you should use XP.

If you want to use for general purposes like Internet and office you should use Windows Vista.

I vote XP ,this pc was vista to see what My customers had ,I really laugh ,sound on creative products was not in any way compatable I found -read Incompatable-surround 7.1- cheap sond card worked -like did creative not pay up To be compatable. yes I used vista until it crashed ,xp pro was choice of reinstall.

just a bad experience at a pc service shop.

I use XP on my legacy systems and Vista on my new ones. I'm very happy with both, but if I had the time & patience I'd probably convert everything to Vista. It is compatable with a lot more tha you'd think.

Hey guys. I'm buying a new computer and I don't know if I want Vista or XP. Right now, the computer comes with Vista Home Premium, but for $75 I can down-grade to XP. I'm worried that certain software and all other stuff will be incompatible, etc. Should I pay the $75 and get XP or keep Vista?
